Shore Family Eyecare in Manasquan, NJ hosted a Brownie troop in May, 2022. By learning about the importance of an eye exam while participating in hands-on activities the scouts were able to earn the Vision Awareness Patch. (Photo at left.)
Examples of different activities offered during the troop visit include learning about nearsightedness and farsightedness and how contacts or glasses can help or discussing how vision can affect school activities and how a Doctor of Optometry can help. Older scouts can find out what a career in optometry entails, and for any age group running an eyeglass donation drive is an option.
The Vision Awareness Badge is open to both boy and girl scouts. To get your troop involved contact your local New Jersey optometrist using our doctor locator and ask if they’d be willing to host a meeting!
